Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

In our village house kitchen, I increased up assisting my mom make broth and cakes. My spouse's a physician, and we live on a "hobby farm" here in the Skagit Area. Through the years, we've brought up everything from turkeys to horse. Right now, there are directs in the field. Ray and I have four kids. The oldest was wedded last summer time...the newest is completing kindergarten

    2/3 cup sugar
    1/4 cup shortening
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla flavor extract
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1-1/2 glasses all-purpose flour
    2 tsp cooking powder
    1/2 cup milk
    Pulled cream
    1-1/2 quarts fresh or freezing fruits, sliced


    In a dish, lotion glucose and reducing. Add egg and vanilla; defeat well. Merge dry substances and add alternatively with dairy products to the creamed combination. Distribute in a oiled 9-in. rectangle cooking pan. Prepare at 350° for 20-25 minutes. Cool on cable holder.
    Cut into nine meals. Divided each providing flat in a trench and complete with whipped lotion and fruits. Substitute top of cake; take with more fruits and a bite of whipped lotion. Serve instantly. Yield: 9 servings
